STEM
Between 2017 and 2027, opportunities for careers within the STEM sector are projected to increase by 13%, and over 80% of employers will be looking for their future employees to have a STEM based qualification. All students at AGS study towards qualifications in mathematics and science as part of our core curriculum offer, but we are committed to raising the profile and importance of STEM across all areas of the curriculum and offer a wide range of STEM opportunities:
Encompassing Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and forging further cross-curricular links, especially within the arts, STEM (or STEAM) is an exciting enhancement of our curriculum at Acklam Grange School. STEM brings new opportunities, inspires creativity and empowers students to shape their own destiny and develop employment skills for the future.
Between 2017 and 2027, opportunities for careers within the STEM sector are projected to increase by 13% (compared to 9% non-STEM), and over 80% of employers will be looking for their future employees to have a STEM based qualification. All students at AGS study towards qualifications in mathematics and science as part of our core curriculum offer, but we are committed to raising the profile and importance of STEM across all areas of the curriculum, so that students have a deep understanding and rich experience, via enabling them to make informed decisions about opportunities in further education and training.
STEM is important for all students at every stage of their school career. Activities are differentiated and personalised and open up a whole new world of ideas which some students may have not otherwise considered, via enrichment days and extra-curricular events such as:
- Live demonstrations and video conferences from inspirational STEM personalities
- Visitors from the animal world
- Mobile planetarium
- Personal careers mentors from STEM industries
Our local heritage, multiculturalism and the future of our town feature strongly in our STEM provision. A ‘freshers fair’ style event with people from local industry allowed our students to find out about potential career opportunities first hand.
