Learning Resource Centre (LRC)
Our LRC is the hub of the school, a bright and welcoming place, and open to staff and students from 8am – 4pm every day. As well as being open before school, the LRC doors are open for independent learning each day during break and lunch. Homework Club operates from Monday to Thursday 3-4pm. We have well stocked shelves with over 14,000 current fiction and non-fiction titles. The book selection is wide and varied and Mrs Gordon is open to suggestions of anything we may not have! Students have access to computers and can also use the printer and photocopying facilities. All students in years 7 and 8 have a timetabled lesson in the LRC via their English class as we place high emphasis on reading here at Acklam Grange.
Bookbuzz
Each year we enrol and invest in the Book Trust Bookbuzz Reading scheme. This ensures that each Year 7 student has the opportunity to own a book, which they have chosen from one of 12 new titles.
Work Experience
Every year 8 student in AGS is given the opportunity to participate in working in the LRC. Work experience includes admin tasks, assisting the Librarian with issuing and discharging books in a class setting and shelving stock.
Authors in School
We regularly host children’s authors at Acklam Grange. Most recently Robin Stevens, Gary Northfield and Dan Smith. Students participate with the author’s presentation, can ask questions and have the opportunity to meet them to have their books personally signed by them.
Activities in the LRC
AGS LRC is here to support learning across the curriculum by the way of providing book boxes to faculties when they are studying particular topics in school. Specific times of the year or World events are celebrated. We had displays and replicated the countries flags whilst running competitions during the European Cup, and we always participate in World Book Day and other events throughout the year.
