Trips & Visits

At Acklam Grange, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our programme of trips and visits is designed to inspire students, broaden their horizons and bring learning to life through real-world experiences. From local discovery days to international travel, each visit plays an important role in personal development, academic progress and rewarding student achievement.

Educational visits provide students with opportunities that simply cannot be replicated in lessons. They allow learners to:

  • Experience subjects in real-life contexts
  • Develop independence and resilience
  • Build friendships and teamwork skills
  • Strengthen cultural awareness
  • Increase confidence and curiosity
  • Create lasting memories of their school years

Whether directly linked to the curriculum or offered as enrichment and rewards, every trip is planned to ensure it is inclusive and meaningful.

Across all trips and visits, students build essential life styles such as independence, responsibility, communication, cultural understanding, leadership and adaptability.

Educational visits

Many of our trips are designed to support classroom learning and deepen subject knowledge.

Examples include:

  • London – Students explore national landmarks and theatres to support their creative and performing arts studies.
  • Berlin – Students have visited museums and national landmarks to develop their knowledge of design and technology.
  • Barcelona – Our Acklam Grange choir have visited Barcelona to take part in a choir event to support their studies in music.
  • Theatres & galleries  – These trips support studies in English, Drama and Art through live performances and exhibitions.
  • Wimbledon – This event provides insight into elite sport and competition for students studying sport or who are part of our Sports Academy.
  • Careers visits – Students gain first hand experience of workplaces, colleges and universities to support future pathways.
  • Expeditions & fieldwork – Geography and science trips develop students’ investigative and research skills.
  • Normandy – This helps students to develop their French speaking skills and learn about different cultures.

Enrichments & rewards trips

We believe in celebrating effort, progress and positive behaviour. Rewards trips recognise students’ achievements while offering exciting new experiences.

Some trips include:

  • Ski trip – An unforgettable residential visit where students learn to ski to help build resilience and experience culture.
  • Flamingo Land – A fun-filled end of the year trip that develops students independence and social skills.
  • End of term rewards – These trips are designed to celebrate commitment, attendance and achievement.

Local & community experiences

We are proud of our local area and ensure students engage with the local community around them.

  • Discovering Middlesbrough Day – Exploring local history, culture and landmarks to build pride in our region.
  • Meserani Project – This provides an ongoing link between Acklam Grange School and a community in Tanzania that is not able to provide even a basic education for the young people in their area.

Trips and visits often become a highlight of a student’s school journey. They spark new interests, inspire future ambitions and create memories that last a lifetime.

By offering a diverse range of local, national and international experiences, we ensure every student benefits from an education that is rich, engaging and truly beyond the classroom.
