Parenting
Many parents find their teenager’s behaviour challenging. Teenagers’ behaviour can be baffling, stressful, hurtful and often worrying however these common issues are an essential part of puberty and growing up.
The teenage years can be an important time of change and development for young people. As teenagers grow, they begin to develop greater independence, form stronger friendships and explore their own identity. During this time, they may experience changes in mood behaviours and emotions.
For parents and carers, this stage can sometimes feel challenging. Teenagers may test boundaries, seek more privacy, or become more influenced by their peers. However, positive relationships with supportive adults remain very important for young person’s wellbeing and development.
Please watch the video below which explains the how the teenage brain works and why young people can sometimes struggle against healthy rules and boundaries.

- Keeping communication open and encouraging honest conversations.
- Listening to concerns without judging and not interrupting them until they’ve finished speaking.
- Setting clear and consistent boundaries- teens may disagree with them however know they are sign you care.
- Do not bottle up your concerns- if you’re worried about your teen, try talking calmly and direct them to useful. information so they can research and ask their own questions using a reliable source of information.
- Allowing them their own space and privacy.
