What was your experience at Acklam Grange like?
I struggled to fit in at first, however the staff went above and beyond to help me and make me feel more comfortable. In the end I was really comfortable in the school which allowed me to achieve my best.
Do you have a fond memory that you would like to share?
It has got to be the snow days, I really enjoyed them although they were limited, they were really fun!
What person, class or experience most influenced you?
My English teacher, Mrs Bennett-Smith. She is an outstanding teacher and she really went above and beyond in her lessons. She taught me how to respect others while also having a bit of fun mixed into her lessons.
How did your education at AGS prepare you for your career?
It taught me how important community is, as well as great communication and manners outside of school and into the future.
What has your career path been like? How did you get to where you are?
After leaving school, I went to Middlesbrough College to study multi skills in construction. I then applied for a job at Middlesbrough Council in the Environment Department and was successful in gaining a job and worked there for four years. I have recently began a new role at Thirteen Group in Estate Services.
What do you enjoy about your job?
Everyday can be different. I could be doing anything from ripping weeds to hedge cutting or strimming. I really enjoy my job and having the opportunity to work outdoors and meet new people is really rewarding. The job is hard at time but I work hard and always get through.
What skills have served you well in your career?
Clear communication, respect, passion, creativity, collaboration and integrity.
What advice would you give to current Acklam Grange students about their future?
Keep going and don’t give up, never let anyone get you down and make sure you have time to have a little bit of fun and experience new things.
