What was your experience at Acklam Grange like?

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Acklam Grange and often look back fondly on the friendships and memories made there. I can certainly say that I made memories and friends for life. The staff were incredibly supportive throughout my time at school and played a huge role in helping me excel across all subjects. Their encouragement, dedication, and genuine care created an environment where I felt confident to push myself and grow, both academically and personally. Acklam Grange truly shaped who I am today, and I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences, opportunities, and people who made my time there so special.

Do you have a fond memory that you would like to share?

Some of my fondest memories were with my tutor group, as we constantly won awards and even earned a reward trip to Jump 360! Those moments of celebration and pure enjoyment are ones I’ll always cherish.

What person, class or experience most influenced you?

I was very fortunate to have many amazing teachers, including my first form tutor, Mr Bennett, who had my tutor group as his very first form class. By Year 11, I had Ms Hammonds as both my form tutor and Geography teacher, and her support truly made a difference to my journey. Miss Coyle also pushed me to achieve my very best academically, especially in English.

How did your education at AGS prepare you for your career?

Acklam Grange provided a strong foundation for both my academic and personal development. It became a cornerstone for my growth, influencing the values, confidence, and aspirations I carried forward. The skills and knowledge I gained during my time at AGS have been fundamental in shaping me into the person – and the teacher – I am today.

What has your career path been like? How did you get to where you are?

After completing my GCSEs and leaving AGS, I went on to finish my A-levels during the COVID period. I then pursued a degree in Early Childhood Studies, graduating with First Class Honours. During this degree, I discovered my passion for being in the classroom and working directly with children. As a result, I completed my Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), receiving exemplary feedback on all lessons and assignments. I am now working as a primary school teacher in a school that I truly love.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I love inspiring and educating the next generation, especially because my teachers had such a lasting impact on me. Teaching isn’t just about delivering a curriculum; it’s about building relationships, nurturing growth, and celebrating the little wins along the way. Seeing a child succeed and thrive, both in and outside the classroom, is one of the most rewarding experiences – and one I get to enjoy every day! I am also fortunate to work alongside supportive colleagues who share my passion for education, making our school a truly collaborative and friendly environment.

What skills have served you well in your career?

Acklam Grange helped me develop my confidence and leadership skills. I was offered many amazing opportunities such as being a sports leader and completing my HPQ at AGS. These experiences really helped me to build those skills. My time at AGS also taught me important values like perseverance and resilience, which are all part of the AGS PRIDE values.

What advice would you give to current Acklam Grange students about their future?

Try your best and believe in yourself – you’re capable of achieving more than you think. If you’re passionate about something, pursue it wholeheartedly. Even if you’re unsure where life will take you, don’t give up. By giving your best effort, staying committed, and being resilient, opportunities will naturally come your way.
