What was your experience at Acklam Grange like?

My experiences of Acklam Grange school could not have been more beneficial for me. The academic growth but also personal growth is testament to the staff who were there every day wanting the very best for every single child in the building.

What person, class or experience most influenced you?

I have numerous fond memories of Acklam Grange – whether that be playing for the school football team or being taken on trips such as paintballing with Mr Laidler or rock climbing with Miss Haggath. The extra-curricular activities were always second to none.

How did your education at AGS prepare you for your career?

Throughout my time there were numerous members of staff. It would be so hard for me to narrow it down to just one member of staff, whether it be my head of year, Miss Wass, who cared so deeply about every child in her year or my English teachers, Mrs Ledger and Miss McFadden, for enabling me to come out with the outcomes that I did at GCSE. Mr Flint and the PE staff were also a big influence on me becoming a PE teacher.

How did your education at AGS prepare you for your career?

Without the support I was given throughout my time at Acklam Grange I don’t even think I would have made it to Year 11, let alone finish with the great outcomes I did, AGS laid out the foundations for my career and I couldn’t be more grateful.

What has your career path been like? How did you get to where you are?

After leaving school I went to MIddlesbrough College for 2 years and then Teesside University for 3 years, studying sport and exercise science. After this I completed my PGCE through Sheffield Hallam and achieved QTS in 2024 through Stockton SCITT

What do you enjoy about your job?

I enjoy going into the building every day and working with passionate members of staff who care deeply about the outcomes and welfare of every single child in the academy.

What skills have served you well in your career?

I think confidence is a huge one as well as being adaptable to any given thing that can happen in the classroom.

What advice would you give to current Acklam Grange students about their future?

One massive piece would be to ask lots of questions about and try to learn from experts in the field you are interested in and try to build as many positive relationships with as many people as you can – you never know when you might see them again.
