What was your experience at Acklam Grange like?

My time at Acklam Grange School shaped who I am today—it helped me build resilience, grow in confidence, and learn lessons that have stayed with me since.

Do you have a fond memory that you would like to share?

A fond memory from my time at Acklam Grange School was our school trip to Flamingo Land Resort, where I won a giant Minion that even had its own seat on the way home.

What person, class or experience most influenced you?

Science at Acklam Grange School influenced me the most because I struggled with it—it pushed me to work harder, be persistent, and develop problem-solving skills that have stayed with me.

How did your education at AGS prepare you for your career?

My education at Acklam Grange School prepared me for my career by teaching me resilience, problem-solving, and the importance of hard work—skills I carry into every professional challenge I face.

What has your career path been like? How did you get to where you are?

Straight after leaving Acklam Grange School, I attended Middlesbrough College to study Health and Social Care. I then progressed to the University of Bradford, where I completed a BSc in Clinical Technology, followed by an MSc in Advanced Biomedical Engineering. I’m now in my second year working as an Application Engineer within the Product Management team at Seaward.

What do you enjoy about your job?

What I enjoy most about my role as an Application Engineer at Seaward is the opportunity to solve complex technical challenges, continuously learn and grow, and make a tangible difference by helping our products improve safety and efficiency for customers.

What skills have served you well in your career?

The skills that have served me well in my career—particularly the determination and hard work that allowed me to pass science and pursue the courses I wanted—include problem-solving, attention to detail, technical knowledge, effective communication, and adaptability.

What advice would you give to current Acklam Grange students about their future?

The advice I would give a student is to stay curious, work hard, and not be afraid to struggle—challenges are opportunities to grow. Focus on building your skills, stay determined, and remember that persistence can open doors to the opportunities you want.
