The Lesiraa Project

Whilst a group of our pupils were visiting schools in Kenya and Tanzania in 2004, we stumbled across Lesiraa School, a school that was desperate for basic facilities such as classroom buildings, furniture, books and pens.
The pupils were being taught in dilapidated wooden shacks, housing up to 90 pupils in each, with most pupils having to sit on the floor.
The school was in an area of extreme third-world poverty, with persistent crop failure following three continuous years of drought.

We took Lesiraa School and its pupils into our hearts, and vowed to return one day having ‘made a difference’.  Upon returning to Acklam Grange, we set up the Lesiraa School Project, with our aim being to build, furnish and resource four classrooms.

The Lesiraa Project has been so successful that the first two classrooms are now complete and in use, and work has already started on the next two.

Acklam Grange School is proud of its association with Lesiraa School, and we are proud of the difference that our pupils have made.
