Examination Course
Edexcel - GCSE History Syllabus D
Aims
The aims of the course is to stimulate an interest for the study of the past, to develop essential, study skills such as the ability to locate and extract information, to detect bias, to analyse information and construct a logical argument. Finally, we hope to provide a sound basis for further study and/or development of a personal interest in history. We believe that examination candidates will find this course interesting, stimulating and satisfying as they work through it.
The programme of study for this course includes America 1920 to 1974, the History of Medicine and Nazi Germany 1919 to 1945. Following responses from pupils and parents received over the last three years, we believe that these topics make the course much more interesting. The topics also reflect some of the teaching strengths within the department.
The programme of study also includes two pieces of coursework which contribute to 25% of the final GCSE grade. They include an assignment on Nazi Germany and an assignment on the assassination of JFK.
The History Department has now produced course booklets for two areas of study - Nazi Germany and Medicine. They contain notes, background material, model answers, essay guides, past questions and a host of other useful and relevant material. It is hoped that by providing such a booklet at the start of the course, a lot of necessary ground can quickly be covered, leaving pupils and staff free to concentrate on the most interesting elements of the course. |
