25 May 2018

A group of Year 9 students recently visited Teesside University and attended the Hello World computer conference. The interactive seminars allowed the girls to get girls excited about using computers and destroy the myth that computers are only for boys. It provided the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop an understanding of both the creative and technical skills involved in this exciting subject area. The workshops that the students participated in were:

Cover Girl

Magazine covers have influenced us all for over a century. Whether they are illustrated or photographs the images represent an idealised image and life style.  In this session, we will explore manipulating magazine covers from smoothing skin to changing body shape and the implications of such manipulation.

Games Programming - Duck shoot with a difference

Ducks get their revenge on the barrels. Build a simple shooter in Unity where you will create the controls and the targets. Simple scripting in C# and physics are used to add behaviour to objects. Get to grips with coordinates and rotation!

All of the students really enjoyed the day and felt a sense of achievement at the end of the conference.
