07 March 2018

A recent ‘Fun with Flight’ STEM roadshow delivered by the RAF was delivered to all Year 8 and Year 9 students to explore the Science, Engineering and Maths of ‘Flying’ through a range of experiments. Everyone (including staff) were engaged with interactive activities including how drones obtain information from thousands of miles away, jet engine mechanics, virtual reality and how we can all fly to our holidays via flight to assist in explaining some complex concepts in engineering. The outcome of the morning was to create passion for STEM related career opportunities and not the misconception engineering is: ‘It’s making or mending something’.

The job potential for STEM related careers has never been so high and the delivery by predominantly female personnel highlighted how women are so important in the STEM field. Once again with any STEM activities conducted within AGS, the students were fully engaged resulting in some great probing questions to the RAF and discussion with peers.

Additionally, a comment from the RAF - “The best-behaved students we have ever delivered to”, highlighting the high standards we have at AGS.
