A group of Year 9 students recently visited Teesside University and attended the Girls and Gadget computer conference. The interactive seminars allowed the girls to get girls excited about using computers and destroy the myth that computers are only for boys. It provided the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop an understanding of both the creative and technical skills involved in this exciting subject area. The workshops that the students participated in were:

Build your own mobile web app

The demand for app development continues to grow for both business to customer and now increasingly for business to business communication. Careers are expanding in this sector and this session will introduce you to the key concepts behind the creation of apps.

Games design

This session involves conceptualisation and creativity which are both utilised in game development. You will cover the basics of game design and simple methods to help improve your abilities as a designer and creative problem solver.

All of the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and felt a sense of achievement at the end of the conference.
