Just ask another student or a member of staff, they will be happy to help.  We know it will take a couple of weeks for you to find your way around.  You will soon be an expert!

What equipment will I need to take to school every day?

At least one black pen, a green pen, a pencil, ruler, eraser and a calculator for Maths lessons. A pencil sharpener would be useful and coloured pencils if you have them. Also your water bottle and lanyard that will be given to you on your first day.

Don’t worry you can buy pens, pencils and rulers from Student Services.

Are the teachers friendly?

The teachers are here to help you and will be happy to do so.

Will I get homework?

You will get to know at the beginning of Year 7 how often you will be given homework (known as AGS Enhance).

You must always come to school wearing the correct uniform, including suitable shoes.  We also have a PE kit, which must be worn for PE lessons.  Click on the link to the ‘Uniform’ page for the full details.

Speak to your teacher or another member of staff straight away so we can help you.

How will I know what lessons I have to go to?

When you start Year 7 you will be given a printout of your timetable.  If you lose it please ask your Form Teacher or ask at Student Services for a new one.

Speak to member of staff who you feel comfortable talking to, perhaps your form teacher or Year Leader.

How do I pay for my lunch?

Before you start Acklam Grange, your parents/carers will receive a letter about ParentPay. This will allow them to pay for your lunch and school trips online, using their bank card. This money will be uploaded onto your Smartcard which you can then use to buy lunch and snacks in the dining hall. You can also load money onto your Smartcard at a cashloader machine in school.

What if I get hungry in the morning?

You can bring a healthy snack with you to eat in the dining hall at break time, or you can buy a snack or drink at the counter using your Smartcard.
