Core Physical Education (Compulsory)

In Years 10 and 11 students will build upon and extend the work they have undertaken in Key Stage 3. They will be given the opportunity to further develop their skills in a minimum of two different activity areas to improve their performance and improve/increase their knowledge of rules and tactics. Specific health related fitness work will continue to make students fully aware of the importance of fitness to health and they will have the opportunity to improve their knowledge and level of personal fitness.

All students will participate in a number of activities including a selection from the list below. Activities undertaken in single lessons will be compulsory but students will have the opportunity to opt into certain activities in their double lesson.


Games activities including:

  • Netball
  • Rounders
  • Rugby
  • Softball
  • Table Tennis
  • Tennis
  • Volleyball

Gymnastic and Dance activities including:

  • Trampolining
  • Street Dance

Athletic activities including:

  • Track and Field
  • Aerobics
  • Health Related Fitness

SLA (Sports Leadership Award)

This is a nationally recognised qualification, which is designed to develop leadership qualities through the vehicle of sport.  Students will be given the opportunity to coach and lead small groups in different activities and also to plan for and undertake sporting tournaments and leagues.
