Drama

“Drama allows you to be creative and ‘think outside the box’, it gives you confidence, builds teamwork and has allowed me to make new friends. Drama definitely.”

Year 11 student

Students are taught drama throughout Year 7, 8 & 9 and then can choose to study drama throughout Y10 & Y11 as part of our options.

At key stage 3, drama teaches students about the fundamentals of acting & presenting by demonstrating, analysing & evaluating acting skills used by the students themselves as well as professionals. They work on three areas, devising drama where they use a range of drama techniques to explore themes and create their own original performances. Scripted drama focuses on the works of professional playwrights and students work on scenes from the page to the stage. The final area of study is the ability for students to analyse and evaluate their own work in written format as well as the work of professionals.

Drama does not only support those students who wish for a career in the performing arts, it also develops key transferable and employability skills needed regardless of their chosen career path. Skills such as communication, expression, commitment, direction, teamwork, organisation, initiative, perseverance and respect are integral aspects of drama lessons at AGS.

Drama is taught in fully equipped, purpose built Drama studios. The school has both a performance hall for our large scale performance and concerts and a studio performance space for our smaller plays, practical exams and more intimate performances we hold throughout the academic year.
