AGS Sports Academy

In 2019, we saw the launch of our new Sports Academy, with 33 students from Years 8, 9 and 10 identified on their attitude and commitment towards PE and Sport. Local Olympian and European Gold Medallist, Aimee Willmott, and Headteacher Mr Laidler, presented students with their Sports Academy branded school tie, t-shirt and jacket.

Expectations: We fully expect the highest standards from all our Sports Academy students. Being humble, demonstrating respect, no arrogance and building resilience are the cornerstone values of this programme. We would expect all Sports Academy students to act as ambassadors inside and out of school.

Acklam Grange School have developed a strong link with Bede Sixth Form College. Here the students will be exposed to first class facilities, tuition and opportunities to improve their skill acquisition, strength and conditioning and knowledge of leading a healthier lifestyle through a bespoke programme. Additionally, the Sports Academy programme will facilitate visits to other inspiring sports facilities around the country to provide our students with a platform to succeed in sport and life in general. We aim to develop students as sports people and more importantly as excellent citizens.

To date, the Sports Academy Students have experienced a plethora of activities to inspire, motivate and develop their understanding of how to make progress in their respective sports as an athlete and/or academic of sport. We have visited the English Institute of sport, Teesside University, Middlesbrough College, Manchester United, Manchester City and are embarking on a trip to the All England Tennis Club (Wimbledon).
