As well as visiting Bede Sixth Form College to undertake bespoke training to develop our Sports Academy students as athletes, we have worked with year 5 students from a number of our family primary schools carrying out fitness testing and developing their respective components of fitness, similarly to the programme our very own students are developing at Bede Sixth Form College.

We had the great pleasure of a visit from Richard Kilty (World 60m Gold medallist) who spoke with our Sports Academy students about the sacrifices and mindset needed to become a champion. Additionally he provided a sprinting workshop, explaining the principles of improving technique to facilitate quickness and speed.

We recently visited the English Institute of Sport to see how world class athletes prepare and train for upcoming events and how they lead their lives. The aim of this experience was to inspire a generation of Sports Academy students into realising they could potentially achieve with the right mindset.

We are also developing a shadow Sports Academy in our family primary schools. Already we have undertaken fitness testing for current year 5 students using our Sports Academy ambassadors, leading the tests. From this we will invite year 5 students into AGS to continue to develop their functional movement skills with support from outside organisations like Mandale Harriers, Tennis World and Grangetown Netball Club, to give our family primary schools the same fantastic opportunities our students have here at AGS.
